About Evil Detentions

Evil detentions is not for teachers or people acting evilly, it's about creative, practical, lateral thinking thought provoking problem solving tasks

The 'evil detentions' name came about through students I was teaching who called anything particularly well chosen for a task 'evil'. It was a badge of respect that a well thought out activity had been chosen which suited the situation

Someone who tore up paper in class had to tear a sheet into thin strips, another who talked a lot, had to write and recite the poem about love they had devised. I wrote these because it is easy because of pressure of work for teachers to set traditional detention tasks that lose the respect of the young people in their care. Often these young people become so annoyed (unjustifiably, but annoyed nevertheless) about having to do the detention that it worsens relationships between them and their teacher

Evil Detention tasks should do the opposite, something 'fun' that is still difficult and takes their precious time...

Generally, when using Evil Detentions, think about who the detention or activity is for, and how much time and effort you want to put in. Its going to be a big hassle for you if you choose something long winded and equipment heavy when you only have ten minutes, so use the categories wisely!
